Your bathroom may look old and outdated, but a major renovation may not be within your budget. Instead, there are minor things you may be able to do to give your bathroom a new look, such as painting it, but adding new plumbing fixtures such as faucets and hardware can also update your bathroom. The plumbing in your bathroom can make a big impact in your bathroom, and you want it to have a positive impact, not a negative one. If you have old, outdated plumbing fixtures in your bathroom, you should consider replacing them to update your bathroom. Read on for tips on how to do this.
Turn Off The Water Supply
Find the shutoff valve near the water supply where you are trying to change the faucet. Turn the water off using the valve to prevent water from coming out of the faucet when you remove it. Failing to turn off the water will cause a fountain of water to come out of your faucet head and leave you with a big mess on your hands. It is necessary that you shut off the water. If you cannot find the shutoff valve, you need to turn the water off at the main supply and allow it to drip out of the faucet head by turning on the handles until it's dry.
Remove The Old Faucet
Once the water is out of the faucet, you can begin to remove the old faucet. Take apart the handles using a screwdriver to remove the handle covers, then remove the assemblies below using a pipe wrench on the underside of the sink. Remove the entire assembly and remove it from your sink basin. You may need to use a bucket and some rags to catch any water that may still be in the faucet assembly. Then remove the drain cover from the base of the sink by using your wrench on the underside of the drain.
Install The New Faucet And Hardware
Install the new drain cover and drain assembly in the base of the sink, then install the new handles and faucet head by installing them in the same holes where you removed the old faucet. You need to invest in the same type of spacing faucet that you had removed from your sink previously. Once you have the faucet assembly installed, you can turn the water back on and check for any leaks. If you spot a leak, you need to find the leak and tighten any part of the assembly that needs tightening. Allowing it to leak can break down the materials on the faucet and leave you in need of another faucet.
If your bathroom is in need of an update, you may be able to install new faucets and hardware to give your bathroom an entirely new look. Hire a bathroom remodel service to accomplish this task to ensure it is done correctly.
